Casablanca: Where Morocco Meets the Ocean

The country's largest city and main airport, home to the Hassan II Mosque and a long Atlantic seafront: the natural starting point for a tour of the imperial cities.

Destination overview

The Essence of Casablanca

Casablanca is modern Morocco: a working port city of wide boulevards, 1930s Art Deco facades, business districts and a long oceanfront corniche. Most visitors arrive here because Mohammed V is the country's main international airport, and many are surprised by how much character the city has once they slow down.

Its great monument is the Hassan II Mosque, built partly over the Atlantic with a 210-metre minaret, and one of the few mosques in Morocco that non-Muslim visitors can enter on a guided visit. From Casablanca the capital Rabat is just over an hour up the coast, and good motorways lead on to Fes, Tangier, Chefchaouen and Marrakech, which is why so many of our longer tours begin here.
